Gastronomy by the Seine

The “Gastronomy by the Seine” festival opens on Independence Day, July 4. It will see three-star chef Guy Savoy and young master Helene Darroze mix with California sensation Traci des Jardins and San Francisco gourmet David Kinch.

“There is a new wave of American nouvelle cuisine from the west coast that we want to learn more about,” said festival organiser Michel Cloes from industry group, Chef Culinary Network.

Over three days, top chefs, food critics, industry officials and just plain ‘foodies’ will converge on the banks of the River Seine and aboard several yachts to take part in the event.

It is being touted as the first international gastronomy festival to be held in Paris by organisers who hope to turn it into an annual affair.

For the environmentally conscious, the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) is taking part to promote sustainable fishing among food lovers and Euro-toques, an organisation representing some 4,000 European chefs and cooks.

WWF in December launched a campaign to promote better choices in fish and seafood consumption, saying 75 percent of the world’s fish stocks were either depleted or over fished.

Other than workshops, the festival will feature cooking demonstrations and book sales.
