Fun food events to look out for

When I looked at my calendar yesterday, I felt a slight rush of anxiety/panic. The festive, awards and event season is well and truly upon us and there’s no turning back. Like a roller-coaster edging its way towards the top before gravity forces it to accelerate at a frightful speed. Hang on tight – we’re fast approaching the end of 2015!

Christmas is 64 days away but there are a gazillion and one things to enjoy before that – like the Spier Secret Festival which takes place next week – a highlight on the culinary calendar with the focus being on ethical production, sustainable practices and out-of-the-box food trends. There will be talks by Frederik Bille Brahe, Jackson Boxer, Something & Son, Qian (Janice) Wang and other international and local speakers.

Then down in the Eastern Cape – PE welcomes its first ever Taste of PE. It’s sure to be a real crowd-puller and 3 days of absolute food-mania.

Let’s not forget that the 2015 EatOut Awards are set to take place on 15 November and this year, they’ve changed the format from previous years which will be really interesting.

The EatOut Best Everyday Eateries for Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga were announced on Tuesday night and we’ll be Snapchatting (add us: Food24_sa), Instagramming and tweeting live from the Western Cape Everyday Eatery Awards next Thursday.

Thankfully the warmer weather that’s made itself at home in the Southern hemisphere is finally allowing us all to get outdoors and relish the sunshine. What better way to enjoy it than with sumptuous food and wine? The popular Season of Sauvignon festival gets underway this weekend as well as The Market at Val de Vie.

There’s just so much happening and hopefully I don’t need to remind you – but probably the biggest event taking place this weekend is our clash with New Zealand in the semi-finals of the 2015 Rugby World Cup. To ease you through the tension we recommend that you make some of these nibbles. Food makes everything better right?

The weather for the next few days is predicted to be smoking hot. Bring on the braais and Weber-ing!
