From Detox January to Festival February – here’s your guide

It’s almost time to bid farewell to Detox Hell January where we have all been so good! (Well done everyone).  I’m on a first name basis with the lady who swipes my card at the Virgin Active.

I don’t know why Knead Restaurants in Cape Town have already started their amazing R40 meal special with a R10 beer!  Who drinks beer in January? Now February and March, that’s a different story. (Hint: there’s a ton of rocking beer and wine festivals happening soon). Check out our Events Page and also bookmark it for future events – they are flying in.

I don’t mean we have to rip the mielie out of it in February and go back to binge drinking and eating pizza four times a week (yes, that was me last year) –  but there is now a light at the end of the long tunnel that was detox January – and on the weekend nogal! I’m hoping to see lots of braais being lit this Saturday, so have a look at our insane braai section on Food24. Justin Bonello’s chops and peri peri chicken livers alone are worth celebrating.

We’re also lining up some great round-up articles for our readers. Kicking off with the Best burgers in Cape Town we’ll be continuing to find SA’s favourite restaurants with your help and suggestions. You can tweet us on @food24, comment on our Facebook page or just email us on editor@food24.com and let us know what’s on your foodie mind.

The other big event on the February calendar is of course V-day. If you think you’re tired of hearing about it, imagine getting press release after press release about every fabulous thing happening on Feb 14th this year. And this year it’s also on a weekend!

It’s not everybody’s cup of tea but I think even the most cynical of us is inclined to want to spoil the one we love, even a little, on this day set aside to celebrate love. And even if the only loves in your life at the moment are your friends, then pick out a kiff restaurant to go to and spend the night affirming how much fun you all are. We all need a bit of love.

And on that note, I wish you all a beautiful and loving February with lots of nice food and drink, in moderation.
