Food24 eats at Tokara

Setting
Tokara wine estate is right up there with being one of the most picturesque in the country and the restaurant building itself is bold and rather breath-taking.

Lots of glass and steel dominate the space with a grand entrance leading guests passed the open kitchen, to a sophisticated and elegant dining area. Beautiful high ceilings with an open wall of large stone cladding, open onto a deck where you can eat al fresco while taking in the mind-blowing view from your table.

Food

Richard Carstens is simply a magician when it comes to pushing the envelope of South African restaurant cuisine. Constantly fiddling and perfecting new techniques and ideas, you’ll always find something completely unconventional on his menu.

Think “dry-aged roast carrot” paired with a white chocolate sauce. His uncomplicated but extremely focused style means each bite of even the smallest garnish is enough to send you into epicurean ecstasy. Portions are generous, leaving you feel more than satisfied. Wine
Wine pairings are suggested and conducted by resident sommelier, Jaap-Henk Koelewijn. An extensive range of Tokara wine is offered, as well as a list of other award-winning producers from the area. The quality of stemware is exceptional, making the wine experience something special in itself.

Price Range
This is definitely somewhere to splash out so go with the intention of knowing that you’re treating yourself to something special, and be prepared to pay for it. Starters begin at R65 and mains R125.
