Food24 eats at… La Belle

La Belle is the swanky panky new deli-come-bistro at the
newly renovated Alphen Hotel in Constantia in Cape Town.

Previously the rather dusty, but lovable pub ‘The Boer and
Brit’, it has been transformed into a modern eatery with a rustic farm-style décor.
With exposed wooden beams and a stunning interior, it also has a large outside
area under some wise old oaks, and is the place to be and be seen in the
Southern Suburbs for a touch of breakfast or a spot of lunch.

The food

My top picks:

Charcuterie platter – big and beautiful. (R130 – serves 2)
Fishcakes – tasty with an extra wasabi mayo kick. (R80)
Burger – gorgeous, highly recommended! (R80)
Fish and chips – superb crisp batter with great accompaniments and chips. (R120)
Berry and lemon tart – not lemony enough for me at all.
Cheesecake – humungous portion but a good one.

Take a look at my luscious gallery of the above dishes (I tasted them all… thoroughly) or download the menu on the listing to
see more.

Drinks

The coffee is Lavazza Blue and is good. Gorgeous milkshakes
like berries & white chocolate and banana & peanut butter look huge and
lovely. There are also raw juices and smoothies to choose from as well as specialty
teas and some funky hot chocolates.

The wine list is small but comprehensive and not for the faint-hearted where
price is concerned.

Pricing

Not a cheap date, but the portions are sumptuous and there
is great attention to detail in all aspects.

Good for…

A long lazy breakfast or lunch when you’re feeling like being in a beautiful
place with lovely food. It’s also open ’til 9pm so you could fit in an early supper.
