Food24 brings all the news to the mix

South Africa’s biggest online food site, Food24.com, will provide live, up-to-date and behind-the-scenes coverage from the UK of the Diageo Reserve WORLD CLASS World’s Best Bartender Global Final, 2014.

Reporting daily from Scotland and London, Food24 will serve as the only African portal providing coverage of this, the mixology world’s most prestigious competition.

Since its launch in 2009, WORLD CLASS has been lauded as the world’s leading drinks training programme, not only elevating the craft of bar-tending, but setting international standards and trends in the cocktail world, with winners being propelled into the global limelight as the world’s bar-tending elite.

The Global Final will see South Africa’s Best Bartender, National Finals winner Brent Perremore, competing against 49 of the top bartenders from across the world, as they travel between Scotland and London from 28th July-1st August, in the hope of clinching the coveted title of World’s Best Bartender.

During the week of the Global Finals, Food24’s readers will be able to view all the action and activities with day-to-day coverage. These features will include several mixology challenges, status updates, tastings, seminars and interviews with participating mixologists.

“We are excited to have Food24 on board, as they will present the most immediate coverage of this thrilling competition, keeping South Africa’s mixology fans informed on the progress of their favourite bartender and his peers throughout the four days of challenges,” says Dominic Bothner, Diageo Reserve’s National Category Development Manager.

2014’s Global Final is set to be bigger and better than ever before, with a host of fascinating challenges inspired by mixology’s heritage and exciting future.

The challenges will test every aspect of the contenders’ mixology mettle, and take place at several world-famous locations, including the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland, London’s Savoy and Dorchester hotels, and even a mystery London landmark.

Cocktail challenges

Food24 readers can look forward to current news on the eight challenges, which include a “Tale of Two Martinis” wherein bartenders must create an homage to a Retro Martini and one to a “Future Martini”, as well as a literary-inspired “Cocktails & The Written Word” round.

If Capetonian Brent Perremore is successful at the Global Final, he will travel the globe as a Diageo Reserve WORLD CLASS Ambassador, and achieve international fame as the World’s Best Bartender.

“Food24 looks forward to covering the action at 2014’s WORLD CLASS Global Final. The challenges are sure to produce some astounding creations, and the level of skill that will be exhibited by the contenders is sure to keep South African audiences engrossed,” says Cathrine Shone, Food24.
