Food festival season

There’s nothing I love more than a good event. That annual fun fest that is circled in your calendar before your other half’s birthday.

For me it used to be the L’Ormarins Queens Plate. Mostly because I had the best time ever at the first one I attended with my (gorgeous) friend Reneé. We bet on horses and won, schmoozed tipsy celebs and even ended up at an after-party with Schalk Burger. Those were some fun times.

Nowadays I prefer the more sedate and foodie-oriented festivals where friends discuss the texture of this and the nose of that… until it all falls apart and somebody loses an iPhone or cuts their thumb on a broken tasting glass. Still, loads of fun.

On that note, let’s get stuck into some of the awesome festivals coming up.

The weather is turning chilly so instead of getting lobsterised on a lilo, it’s time to haul out the boots and scarves. You’ll feel more stylish eating a gourmet wors roll when wearing the season’s latest Winter trends.

Pink, Summery cocktails are replaced with big glasses of red wine and your appetite suddenly decides you can eat risotto and braised lamb for days! Festivals are all about the crowd and what better when it’s your crowd. So get your mates involved. (Side note: You usually get a discount for group bookings. Just saying.)

Taste of Cape Town/Joburg/Durban
– One of the best ways to find out more about the best restaurants in your city.

Constantia Fresh Food & Wine Festival – Another showcase of award-winning restaurants and wines in an exceptional setting.

The Good Food & Wine Show – Yes. Gordon Ramsay is coming this year!

The SA Cheese Festival at Sandringham – is bigger than ever this year. If that was possible.

The Bot River Barrels & Beards Festival – I think we HAVE to check this one out!

The Pinot Noir Festival – You can’t beat a good Pinot.

The Jozi Craft Beer Festival – because craft beer is SO hot right now.

Disclaimer: most of these current festivals are taking place in the
Western Cape, so this is where you come in dear readers.  We’d like you
to email us details of a fun festival in your area, food or wine, and we will reward
one of you with a R500 Kalahari voucher. (Yes – we are that serious
about finding out about what is going on near you).

Happy days are here again!
