Food blogging SA

Hi everyone,

‘So what’s all this about food bloggers Caro?’

Ah, I think, now here is a potential candidate, someone who wants to share their passion for food but doesn’t know where to begin.

I then tell them how inspiring and amazing our wonderful SA bloggers are, never mind all the talent out there in the big wide world.

They ask me, ‘Sooo, how would I start one? I wouldn’t know where to begin’. I then tell them to pop on over to our blog platform and start one right away, because that’s how easy it is.

After that, it’s up to the cook or aspiring food writer to work extremely hard at their blog, writing unique recipes and original content that can grab their readers and therefore keep their interest and gain a following. Good photography is key, after all, you ‘eat with your eyes’.

I make no chicken bones about this my fellow foodies, it’s very hard work.

If you can do this, really make your mark, take beautiful photos and write your recipes with integrity and a big slice of imagination, you will do well.

Home cooks to fame

I’ve seen home cooks start their journey by taking snapshots of their suppers and posting the recipe. These same people have become cookbook writers, stylists and tv stars in a few short years – it’s simply exhilirating.

Take our beautiful Sarah Graham for instance, she has a lovely show that follows on from her book ‘bitten’, watch it on Sundays on SABC 3 at 4pm – it’s a really great production.

There’s the dynamic Anel Potgieter from Lifeisazoobiscuit. In 1 short year, she started her blog, won Dinner Divas and then the Eat Out Blogger of the Year. A huge success and 100% deserved, she has worked extremely hard and her blog is original, quirky and delicious. In fact, she’s doing a workshop at the Good Food & Wine Show this weekend, so do yourself a favour and go.

Sam Linsell from Drizzleandddip, local food stylist and now Internationally acclaimed blogger made the top 10 blogs on the Huffington Post recently *clapping and cheering*.

On our lovely blog platform we’ve got blogmama Nina Timm from My Easy Cooking, a blogging institution and mama to them all.
There’s the amazing Sous Chef with her smile and great budget recipes. Bits of Carey with her gorgeous, comforting recipes that are completely drool-worthy.

There’s the fabulous Anina from Aninas Recipes, Ishay from Foodandthefab and Candice from The Gorgeous Gourmet who light up my screen. The fun and cool Shaina from Milkandcookies who is our talented import from the States (3 cheers for Reeces cups!).

Pinkpolkadot has a huge repertoire of all sorts of recipes from super simple to very elegant and the artistic and amazing Foodmonger whose photographs are quite simply, works of art. Janice Tripepi is our Italian mama hailing from Durban and Mzansistylecuisine with Thuli show that we have all sorts of diversity.

Our beautiful actress Kate Liquorish from undomestikated is tons of fun, rumtumtigger is our ball of energy and mum to 2, Potjie is the amazing braai master, Usha our vegetarian goddess and Betty Bake our arty and talented gluten-free queen.

There are so many more! Have a luscious look at these blogs, I’ll deep-fry my hand if you don’t drool.

So give it a go, you never know where it may take you.

Love and honey,
