Food bloggers unite

The Menu for Hope, was launched four years ago by Chez Pim, one of the world’s most popular food blogs, raising funds for United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

This unique fundraising platform provides food bloggers from around the world the opportunity to connect with farmers in rural Africa. For every US$10, the donor receives a virtual raffle ticket towards a prize of their choice.

This year, the prizes include experiences such as touring the elBulli laboratory with Ferran Adria, dining on a historic British meal prepared by Heston Blumenthal, or joining Harold McGee on a lunch date to satisfy a lifetime’s worth of cooking curiosity.

The Menu of Hope is the brain child of Pim Techamuanvivit, the face behind Chez Pim. She is a well-known foodie who has written for the New York Times, Food & Wine Magazine, Bon Appétit magazine, Men’s Vogue, and others.

“This is the fourth year that I have run this campaign, but this is the first time that we have tried to make this direct connection between the money we raise and the people who need it in a place like Lesotho,” Pim Techamuanvivit said.

With special permission from the WFP, the funds raised by Menu for Hope 4 will be earmarked for the school lunch programme in Lesotho. They chose the programme in Lesotho because it is a model programme in local procurement – buying food locally to support local farmers and the local economy.

Last year, Menu for Hope raised $62,925.
