Flavoursome updates from the Food24 editor: 18 September 2017

If you follow Food24 on social media, you’ll know that we announced our first NextGen winner at a champagne brunch ceremony on Thursday last week. The winner was 21 year old Meanda Mills from The Institute of Culinary Arts who wowed the judges with her hot cross bun cruffins served with a tiramisu eggnog. Search the hashtag #Food24NextGen to see more from the event.

Last week also saw the official launch of two Cape Town restaurants – Feugo in Sea Point and Lou Lou’s Bar at de Waterkant. They have both been operating for a while but have only just received their liquor licences so as you may imagine, there was much celebrating.

With just one week left until SA’s biggest braai-fest, we trust you are adding the final touches to your Heritage Day menu. In fact, let’s put you to the test and see if you could you pass a South African foods spelling bee.

We’ve also shared 10 Foods you probably didn’t know were unique to South Africa. Can you guess what they might be? While we’re on the topic of SA food, how glorious does this caramel milk tart look!

Alright, I’m off to browse some healthy vegetarian recipes to make for Meat-free Monday. Care to join me?
