Flavoursome updates from the Food24 editor: 11 September 2017

Happy Monday, everyone!

We’re in for an exciting week ahead here at Food24. Thursday morning sees us crown our first ever NextGen winner. Click here to find out more about this super competition we’ve been running. I’m so excited to celebrate with all the young student chefs. Be sure to keep your eyes glued to social media on the day by following the hashtag #Food24NextGen

We’re nearing the middle of September and that means… Heritage Day isn’t too far away! We’ve got some lovely new SA-inspired recipes just waiting to be recreated in your kitchen, like this dark chocolate and koeksister terrine. It’s definitely on my dessert bucket list. Also, better start dusting off those braai grids soon!

In general news, there’s been quite a flurry of panic over the fact that there is a shortage of butter on the shelves. We chatted to a local pastry chef about it. See what he has to say on the issue here

Another big story sweeping our screens is the water-less cooking challenge between SA’s top chefs. A great initiative during the Western Cape’s awful drought. Also read our article on how to save water in your kitchen.
