According to Business Insider a Florida McDonald’s experienced the spirit of Christmas in extraordinary fashion this weekend.
McDonald’s cashier, Marisabel Figueroa, was shocked after 250 people paid for the food of the person behind them in her drive-thru line.
She said the heart-warming chain reaction happened after one customer, Torie Keene, asked for her to pay for the food of the people behind her and wish them a “Merry Christmas.”
Those customers asked to pay for the food of the people behind them — and soon hundreds of people followed suit.
“It kept going and going,” Figueroa told ABC News. “After the 15th car I started tally marking the number of people that were participating on a piece of paper.”
The chain reaction lasted nearly the duration of Figeuroa’s six-hour shift with 250 vehicles taking part.
A similar concept is the suspended coffee movement, started in Italy, whereby you buy yourself a coffee and another one for someone who could not normally afford a coffee.
The movement gained some momentum worldwide with the #suspendedcoffees and Haas Coffee Collective in Cape Town ran the #suspendedcoffees for a while – but sadly it never really took off.
Movements in South Africa like #ChangeOneThing and #RandomActofKindness, started by Brent Lindeque, deserve recognition and support, especially for people who do want to help in some small way, but don’t know where to start. Imagine if we all took part in something good.
