Eat Out launches food school to help uplift SA’s hospitality industry

This week Eat Out, South Africa’s definitive restaurant guide, introduced the brand’s latest initiative, the Eat Out Food School. The school will allow a group of 15 people who are passionate about all things food, to realise their dreams of gaining employment in the sector and attaining a formal qualification. Although 2020 has been a catastrophic one for the hospitality industry, Eat Out has shown great support for the food businesses that were drastically impacted by COVID-19. In April they launched the Eat Out Restaurant Relief Fund that allowed kitchens to still operate by feeding those in need and now they are set to partner with Drum Beat Academy to offer a 12-month culinary training programme for those with a passion for the industry.

“The Eat Out Food School is officially opening its doors on 15 February 2021 and we have 15 fully funded spots available for students who are unemployed, of historically disadvantaged background and between the ages of 18 to 34,” says Tarryn Corlett, head of the Eat Out Food School. “We are a registered Charitable Trust, striving to inspire and connect a community to make a difference in the world, one meal at a time.”

At the end of the year, the Eat Out Food School students will receive CATHSSETA’s Accredited National Certificate in Food & Beverage Service as well as CATHSSETA’s Accredited Skills Programme Cook: Convenience Food. The students will also be exposed to other exciting training opportunities in some of the country’s top restaurants.

With this training program, Eat Out hopes to drive transformation in the hospitality and food industry and enable aspiring chefs to realise their dreams.

Applications for the Class of 2021 are now open and will close on the 30 November 2020. Visit Eat Out’s Help Out site to find out more.
