Domino’s Pizza opens its doors in Joburg

Domino’s pizza have opened up their doors in Rivonia in Joburg after an announcement by Taste Holdings last year that they were heading to SA’s shores. The outlet is located on Rivonia Junction on the corner of Rivonia and 7th Street.

When we posted the article last year we ran a vote and the majority of readers indicated that they were excited for Domino’s, the world’s most loved pizza delivery chain, to come to South Africa. By the looks of their PinIt Campaign the excitement levels for this store, and others, have been growing by the day.

Taste Holdings, which holds the licence agreement to develop Domino’s Pizza in SA, said it would open six stores this year in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, with plans to rapidly expand throughout the rest of the country early next year.

Along with new stores, the restaurant franchise group is converting its Scooters Pizza and St Elmo’s chains to Domino’s outlets.

“For any brand that comes into SA, the biggest problem that they’re going to have is finding sites, because every free site that’s available is a site that one of us have turned down,” said Taste Holdings CEO Carlo Gonzaga.

“By converting Scooters and St Elmo’s, we’re already taking good sites and converting them without having to go find sites and then accepting lesser sites.”

Domino’s is known as the world’s leading pizza delivery chain in both store numbers and pizza sales.  Domino’s Pizza has some 10,800 outlets in more than 70 countries.

While the group will be introducing the much favoured American-styled pepperoni to the market, it has kept a few local pizzas on the menu to keep South African pizza connoisseurs happy.

Are you keen to try out Domino’s? Or will you be sticking to Debonairs, south Africa’s current favourite home-delivered pizzas with over 400 outlets in SA?
