Dinner and a show

I’m not here for your entertainment… oh wait… I am.

This week’s
theme is Dinner and a Show. It seems to be the latest trend in eating
out as gastro-wizardry and Philippe Starck chairs no longer cut the
mustard for those who are looking to drop their hard-earned money on a
night out on the town.

By night on the town I don’t mean
throwing back jager-bombs at pace until you’re poeg-eyed or dancing
around your handbag… (Although I am very partial to that too…) Nope –
folks are looking to be properly entertained these days and luckily
there is no shortage of places to go.

Last week I was completely mesmerized by Burlesque at Vaudeville.
I’m ruined for life. Go, and you’ll see what I mean.  This show is the
benchmark for dinner and a show at the moment, but that’s not to say
it’s the only fun-stop in town. Café Chic is taking you back a few
decades and throwing Flower Power Fridays, which are sure to be wildly entertaining.

I’ve had many an entertaining evening at the Kalk Bay Theatre – a 78-seater theatre and restaurant
situated in the quaint Kalk Bay Dutch Reformed church. On top of an
evening of theatre the food here is always fantastic and comes highly
recommended by our own Chef Caro. Coming up in February is Floydian Slips – a production about Pink Floyd including performances of their songs.

Mozambican prawns, tapas and a killer pepper steak sound good to you? Get down to Ruby Tuesday and catch some great live acts whilst you are there.

If you’re in Joburg and singing and dancing waiters is your thing then there’s a really cool spot in Illovo called Rose Boys

Are you a fan of The Carpenters?  The Heritage Theatre
in Durban is where you should be heading. They are currently running a
show called Yesterday Once More.  Tickets, which include a delicious
two-course meal, are R190.

It doesn’t have to be all indoors.
If the weather is good pack your Sunday picnic and head down to the
Botanical Gardens for the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts.  An hour of your favourite SA bands in the most beautiful setting. It’s pretty special.

I’m sure that there is a WHOLE lot more going on than we can fit onto one page so please send me
any details of an evening of entertainment, a great show or even
waiters bursting into song that you’ve recently enjoyed, and we’ll make
sure it’s listed in our groovy events section.

Wherever you are having a good time – tell us about it!
