CT Food24 bloggers!

Have a great day out in the Durbanville Wine Valley…with a cheese maestro, a star chef and a wine maker in the company of Simonsberg: the cheese for the lovers of food and of life.

Eating in is the new eating out. This hot food trend rekindles the dinner party and having friends over. That’s why Simonsberg started an exciting collaboration with the Durbanville Wine Valley Association, inviting food lovers for how-to workshops with  easy-elegant entertaining as the key.

Food24 bloggers are invited with Food24 Resident Chef Caro de Waal to get up close and personal with Simonsberg cheese and its new wine partners in a beautiful pastoral setting – the historic Diemersdal wine farm.

Diemersdal wines are the perfect expression of the distinct terroir of the Durbanville Wine Valley, one of the oldest wine regions of the Cape. As a rare treat the Louws, who have been farming Diemersdal for six generations, will open up their historical homestead for Food24 bloggers. Joanita Louw will welcome the guests into her farmstyle kitchen with its magnificent views onto the rolling hills and vineyards – a perfect spot for star chef Nic van Wyk to cook.

Cheesemaster Alan Fourie will treat guests to a highly informative, interactive cheese tasting. Learn more about award winning Simonsberg cheese, made from the finest Jersey milk: from white rind delights such as camembert brie and Cambrieni, to creamy blue cheeses, well-aged gouda and cheddar. Also get the insider info on the most prized feta in South Africa and cream cheese that won an award as the world’s best.

Guided by a seasoned winemaker, sip, nose and taste the best wine matches for cheese and discover why cheese and wine are such good companions. Both are natural products, created with care. Cheese tends to make a wine taste better, too. It smoothes out the wine and brings out what is best in both.

Chef Nic van Wyk (who once won the coveted Eat Out Restaurant of the Year title) will demonstrate wine-friendly dishes he created especially for Simonsberg with easy entertaining in mind. Just imagine: Blue Cheese Risotto with Honeycomb – one of the many dishes he will demonstrate.

Then sit down to a harvest table, laden with delicious dishes prepared by Chef Nic – dedicated to the forever-partnership of good cheese, good wine and great conversation.
