Cool new foodie products

So what’s new my foodie friends? A whole lot, that’s what.

We do enjoy a
product drop over here at the food24 headquarters, it’s always interesting. We
get beautifully packaged foodie delights, wine and the latest cookbooks.

Sometimes we’re a little confused with things like clocks and headbands .. or
belts, we think. But it’s all rather good indeed.

I’d like to share some of the latest and greatest products
that are around as you won’t always notice them on your supermarket shelves. There is
some truly amazing stuff so take a little gander at what we’ve received and
what we think of it.

Ready egg – This
is still under furious debate.
From the Free Range Chicken Co. comes liquid egg – yes, really. It comes in
rather cute little containers in 3 different ranges of fat: Whole = equal parts
yolk and white; Lite = 2 yolks, 5 whites; White = all egg whites.

The fabulous Tessa tried it out and her report was: “The consistency of the ‘Lite’ was rather watery and didn’t have
that ‘freshly cracked’ egg gloopiness.
With regards to cooking, the liquid eggs take a while longer to reach
the point of coagulation but taste-wise I couldn’t distinguish much of a
difference to normal eggs.”

5FM DJ Rob Vember tweeted us back “@Rob_Vember. when cracking eggs open
becomes too cumbersome… “@food24: Liquid eggs folks. pic.twitter.com/IfMfbkFc”.

Beer bread
Barrett’s Ridge Beer Bread is
the new hot thing in convenience products. A pre-mix that only requires one
simple ingredient: a 340ml can of beer.
The little bags of bread mix come in artisinal, old school packaging that make
them the ultimate ‘guys’ gift, and with 4 flavours to choose from, one can’t go
wrong!

Gorgeous tea range

Wellness Warehouse have packaged a beautifully packaged new range of teas. From organic
ginger and lemongrass (my fave) to green tea and all sorts of rooibos blends
like rooibos and chai.
We love them.

Braai sauce and …er
worms

So this has got to be one of the most interesting ones.
Wellingtons dropped off a lovely large bottle of steak house sauce. Hoorah! Braai month, here we come.
To accompany this was a lone packet of Mopani worms. We’ve got a fun guessing
game over on Facebook at the mo if you want to have a squizz.

2 things to put
Spring in your step

A real whole Russell Hobbs juicer and a cookie maker. Score-of-the-century.
We’ve vowed to drink a new and different juice everyday for our summer skinny
jeans detox and then make cookies to make us feel better about being hungry.
It’s new so watch our fabulous healthy recipes hub for awesome juice recipes and our baking page for inspiring cookies.

Funky Martinis?
Kloovenburg popped us a bottle of their chilli and garlic black olives, we’re going to make some dirty Martinis with them later.

Have you tried something new and cool lately? Let us know and the best one in our opinion will win a R250 Kalahari voucher!

Taraah!
