Chocolate lovers see this – first natural coloured ruby cocoa bean means we’ll soon be eating pink chocolate

When you think of chocolate, you think of the decadent milk, dark or even the creamy white chocolate, right? But what if we told you that you can have it in pink too

Say hello to Ruby, an all new variety of chocolate. Swiss cocoa producer Barry Callebaut, describes it as a naturally pink chocolate treat.

According to CTNews, ruby chocolate was created by the chocolatiers of Switzerland. It is a pink-coloured chocolate which much like white, dark and normal chocolate has a different taste. Though the producers describe the colour as a more reddish colour, it is still seen as pink, or ‘ruby’ in this case. We haven’t even tasted it yet but we’re already in love.

Will we see it in local retail stores?

PR Manager for Foods, Special Occasions and Homeware at Woolworths, Raphaella Frame-Tolmie told Food24, “our chocolate team are investigating the opportunities of this as we speak, but nothing is confirmed at the moment.”

It is definitely something new. This is the very first time a natural colour of chocolate has been produced in 80 years, says The Guardian. Why? It’s made from ruby cocoa beans that grow in Ecuador, Brazil, and the Ivory Coast. This makes it more of a real chocolate than white ‘chocolate’ (which isn’t made from cocoa beans at all).

With a sour-sweet taste, we reckon this Ruby is something everyone should try at least once. The flavour is also described as a berry fruitiness though it’s been said that it has no added flavourants, which makes it natural to boot.

We are berry excited! Hands up who is ready to get a taste of pretty pink Ruby?!

Dark chocolate and koeksister terrine

5 mins For the terrine, line a 22cm x 8cm loaf tin with plastic wrap, allowing an overhang of at least 5cm all round. Combine the butter, cream and chocolate in a large glass bowl and melt it over a double boiler until smooth. Allow it to cool for 5 minutes.
