Chocoholics, this one’s especially for you

I’m sure quite a few of you have been dreaming about this. South Africa now has its very first monthly chocolate subscription. Called My Chocolate Box, customers get a delivery of the very best local and international chocolates and delicacies every month.

“Devoted chocoholics can spoil themselves with a well-deserved membership and receive a box of chocolatey goodness every month or they can buy the subscription for a loved one,” says the company.

Each box contains high-quality chocolates, nougats, truffles, biscuits and fudges, and includes brands like Beyers, Amarula, Coach House and Sweetie Pie. The group promises to include limited edition collections of truffles and international chocolate collections too.

The #Trending team was lucky enough to receive a chocolate box delivery last month and, let me tell you, it was like a feeding frenzy. Within minutes, the whole office had crammed around our desks and gobbled up the treats on offer.

The box had in it Amarula fudge, Sweetie Pies, Coach House biscuits in macadamia, orange and shortbread flavours, a 12-piece Beyers chocolate box with all sorts of goodies, two jars of Coach House nougat in almond honey and brittle crunch flavours, some De Villiers artisan chocolate and an eight-piece Belgian truffle box.

All the products were high-quality and delicious – but the Coach House nougat was by far my favourite. It toppled Sally Williams as my all-time best nougat.

So, what do you pay for such decadent deliciousness? A My Chocolate Box subscription costs R349 a month. While you do get your money’s worth in each box, it’s not an amount I personally would spend on sweets every month. You might also want to think about what a year’s chocolate subscription could do to your summer body. But it’s a really nice idea if you want handy gifts for others, or if you have a big family with many chocoholics.

And after all, there’s nothing wrong with a little cocoa. To subscribe, go to mychocolatebox.co.za
