Cheeky Cheapie Chenins!

Summer has officially made it to the Western Cape now and I feel we can FINALLY turn our minds to real summer drinking. Here are some amazing value Chenin Blancs, all under R50 a bottle. Find your fave and buy a case so you always have something chilled and waiting for you in the fridge.

Boland Cellar Five Climates Chenin Blanc 2013     R26 from Pick n Pay
Platters Wine Guide Superquaffer of the Year 2014 and under R30. Honestly – do I need to say anything more??

Riebeek Cellars Collection Chenin Blanc NV    R29.50 from major retailers
Fab and funky new labels for what has long been a reliable, all-day, every-day quaffer. It just looks a bit cooler and trendier now! Tank-fermented, fresh and fruity.

KWV Classic Collection Chenin Blanc 2013     R38 cellar door
This wine and label is quite understated and easy to miss, but is the kind of wine you can take anywhere from Book Club to a posh dinner and it will feel right at home. Crisp, fresh, zippy, delish.

Simonsig Chenin Blanc 2013     R40 from leading retailers
So much value and over-delivery from this wine. It’s a previous Platter Superquaffer and gives a fab mouthful of tropical fruit, laced with zingy citrus acidity. Totes fruit-bomb.

Neethlingshof Chenin Blanc 2013     R46 from leading retailers.
Creamy, savoury lees contact has made this Chenin a cut above some of the others in terms of richness and complexity and put it firmly in the category of ‘Food Wine par Excellence’! Cries out for a summery salad.

Lanzerac Alma Mater White 2013     R49 cellar door
Actually, there is a little bit of Pinot Blanc in this wine but don’t let that distract you! This new range from Lanzerac  looks a bit old-fashioned but tastes bang up to date with lively yellow fruit and a zippy, crispy, fresh finish.
