Cape Town’s Grand New Beach Boy

From within a once-abandoned warehouse at Granger Bay adjacent Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, the Grand Café & Beach has been created on a stretch white sand on Table Bay.

Following the success of the Grand Café and Rooms in Plettenberg Bay and the Grand Café in Camps Bay, the Grand Café & Beach is an eclectic fusion of international and local cultures, café ambiance and fun beach elegance.

Entering beneath a wooden-covered “floppy hat” along a wooden deck flanked by tall palms, guests arrive to a space of discreet escapism.

Enjoy the 15m long pure white bar with cherub detail which adds to the ambience of the main dining area, backed by an exhibition kitchen (centred itself by a brick pizza oven).

Existing, exposed timber beams, meanwhile, create a natural setting for the new Grand lifestyle gallery and private VIP dining room.

Outdoors, the 46m main deck spills out onto the main beach where sun-seekers can laze on Indian day beds, ordering from the outside beach bar, while two round sea water pools have been installed along with fresh water outside showers.

Beach cuisine

The Grand Café & Beach boasts a chic, bistro-styled menu for both lunch and dinner, serving up old and new classics combining in a new-world fusion of beach café cuisine – from delicious tempura prawns and a singular Caesar salad delicately grilled or fried calamari to a gourmet crayfish sandwich, authentic, delectable bouillabaisse and fillet béarnaise.

From the pizza oven, gourmet, thin-crust pizzas are served on long wooden platters. The pizzas will come in two sizes (2-4 or 6-6 people) with only two types served nightly being the signature Grand pizza and one pizza of the day.

A wine list, meanwhile, includes local sparkling wine & French champagne at most attractive prices.
