Buttermilk

Traditionally, Buttermilk is the liquid that is left over when milk is churned to butter. These days, the product is made commercially by adding a culture to skim milk to give a slightly acid- flavoured beverage.

Use: It has a sour taste and is often used to make scones, soda breads, doughnuts. It can also be used to replace milk for a healthier milkshake. It adds lightness to pancakes, rusks, and is good for a low kilojoule diet.
