Boy wins boerewors competition

Thirteen-year-old Boksburg boy, Jaco Labuschagne, beat 1 185 contestants at the weekend to be crowned as the boerewors king in Shoprite’s annual competition to find the best boerewors recipe.

He walked away as the youngest ever champion of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Crown which was held at Sun City’s Valley of the Waves on October 2.

Although his parents have entered the competition over 10 times their son managed to win, first time!

His winning recipe earned him a brand-new Toyota Hilux double-cab bakkie, Beeld reports. He also won a R2500 holiday voucher from All Gold, R2000 Coca Cola cash prize and R750 worth of Simba vouchers.

“Dad can get the bakkie, as long he takes me fishing in it,” Labuschagne said, according to his mother, Dorothy Labuschagne.

The teenager, who wants to become a professional cricket player one day, said his recipe was a secret.

Under the terms of the contest, the sausage will soon go on sale at Shoprite Checkers supermarkets and the entire country will get a chance to try Jaco’s champion boerie.
