Book ahead: Restaurants for Knysna marathon 2014

In general it’s probably good advice not to start eating new dishes or to discover your first oyster before a big race the next morning.

Be sure to book ahead for all of these restaurants especially the night of 11 July.

Ile de Pain

If you are a believer in bread and filling up the night before you have a mighty athletic morning, place an order with Ile de Pain a few days before your race . It’s the best bakery in town and one of the most renowned bakeries in all of South Africa.

The bread is soft and made with the expertise of people who pride themselves on being honest and genuine bread makers. Note that Ile de Pain is only open until 3pm, so be sure to order what you want to eat ahead of time.  Take your bread home and have a sandwich for dinner with the freshly baked bread you just hand picked and have your needed relaxed early night.

Col’Cacchio, Knysna

Classic pizza and pasta and good for large groups of people, Col’Cacchio Knysna will accommodate.  It’s always reliable and with light and fresh options you can find something that your pre-race routine requires.

Get a personal pizza with whatever toppings you’d like or a big veggie packed salad that’s tasty and fresh.  It’s substantial enough to have a big meal or ideal for splitting a pizza and something lighter with your running buddy.

Café Z

Gourmet but lighter than its parent and award winning restaurant Pezula.  Spend the evening with executive chef Geoffrey Murray who takes local produce and turns it intoartistically presented food on the plate before you. You can choose from meats to salads to 1 dish pasta meals.

Café Z is a less intense dining experience than the gourmand menu at Pezula, you’ll get value for money along with a quicker classically organic meal.

Trattoria da Vinci

If you are staying outside the city of Knysna and want to get a pasta filled home cooked meal closer to Sedgefield, Trattoria da Vinci is the perfect home grown spot.

Steve and Leah, who run the small local restaurant, will likely serve you your meal to you from kitchen to your table.  They source their ingredients from nearby estates and fishermen.

34° South

34° South is fish central with seafood and vegetarian options.  Light meals are on the menu and grilled seafood requests are greeted by friendly knowledgeable staff who are happy to make your meal the one you want. Keep it simple but don’t compromise on the spoils of dining out.

If you want to bulk up on protein or keep it light but with bright zesty flavours, 34° South are classic seafood dishes with rice and chips sides.
