Boks vs Lions cook-off

All the rugby fans are going to be attached to the TV this weekend watching the Lions vs South Africa so Food24 has decided to help you emanate your inner player 23. We’ve designed a traditional South African menu for this weekend for us at home and all the expats across the pond that are feeling homesick.

All the Lions fans that are visiting our beautiful country, don’t fret, we haven’t forgotten about you, we have compiled some classic British meals to make you feel at home.

Bokke food:

Breakfast:
Start the day off with a hearty portion of mealie pap, flavoured with thick lumps of velvety butter, sticky brown sugar, golden syrup and creamy milk.

And why not bake some buttermilk rusks, we always need to have something to dunk in our coffee or tea.

Lunch:

For lunch try My Easy Cooking’s creation, stuffed potbroodjie, a spin on the original bunny chow.

Dinner:
South Africa has so many traditional dishes, here are a couple of choices that you can choose from:

Read our Potjiekos 101; get some great tips and ideas on ingredients, seasoning your pot and sides dishes.

Give your overseas visitors a taste of our game with these gorgeous springbok shanks served with parmesan mashed potatoes.

We can’t call ourselves South Africans and not mention the word braai. Chuck some meat (wors,
prawns,
and lamb chops) on the coals, throw together a colourful salad, wrap some potatoes in tinfoil and take part in our favourite past time whilst supporting our boys.

And for dessert:
Treat family and friends to some classic South African treats like
old fashioned milktart,
koeksisters and

malva pudding.

Lion’s food:

Breakfast:
Kitchen Girl puts a twist on the big British fry-up with this all-in-one brekkie.

Lunch:

Batter it up for lunch with some
yummy fish and chips or some bubble and squeak old chap.

Dinner:
Fry up some hearty and tummy warming good ol’

bangers and mash or the Sunday favourite of
roast fillet of beef with herbed Yorkshire pudding.

And the most British of tea time treats:

scones with cream and jam and light, fluffy
crumpets.

Enjoy and good luck boys!!!
