Best-selling Banting cookbook co-author talks about balance in food intake

There have been many discussions around the dinner table in the last 6 months regarding the infamous low carb high fat Banting diet. Professor Tim Noakes and his team have been criticised by leading nutritionists and dieticians on the long-term effects of this way of eating – with findings that the eating plan is no better than a balanced diet.

This hasn’t swayed the Banting Brigade and it appears that the demand for low carb food offerings in restaurants is just growing. Kauai was the first national food outlet to offer the famous Banting cauli-mash instead of potato mash and earlier last month, Cape Town Banters saw the opening of the world’s first Banting restaurant ,entirely dedicated to the Banting lifestyle in Green Point.

We had the opportunity to hear Tim Noakes speak and learned some very interesting things about why one should consider ditching carbs. Read all about it here.

The Real Meal Revolutions cookbook that sparked such an interest in low carb eating, has gone into it’s 21st week of being the best-selling book in South Africa. We had one of the co-authors, chef David Grier, join us in studio to talk about the criticisims that low carb eating has received.
