American award for SA potstill brandy

Premium South African potstill brandy shines at American spirits competition.

South African premium brandy has proved once again that it is among the best in the world, with a top award going to the Oude Meester 18-year-old potstill at the recent San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Spirits experts from noted restaurants and hotels, well-known spirits journalists from major national media, spirits buyers for large purveyors, and spirits consultants, convened in March to judge a greater number of entries than ever before  – 1 474 spirits from 63 countries, and 89 different classifications.

Showing its prowess, the Oude Meester Souverein 18-year-old was awarded a Double Gold award at the 14th annual competition.

“The win comes at an exciting time for the Oude Meester brand, as we recently announced Idris Elba as our new brand ambassador,” said Oude Meester Brand Manager Genius Mnywabe.

Elba will be integral to the launch of an exciting brand initiative celebrating mastery and the importance of the diverse journeys that are followed in pursuit of excellence.

“Our international award-winning brandies allow South Africans to embark on a journey of luxury appreciation while supporting local spirits,” said Caroline Snyman, Distell Spirits Segment Director.  “We were competing against brandies from France, Spain, America, Greece, Italy, Ukraine and Moldova and it is wonderful that South Africa can proudly fly the flag for premium brandy.”
