6 coffee places not to miss in Cape Town

Cape Town is teeming with delicious coffee around every corner.

Tick off these 6 ultimate coffee shops in the CBD and you’ll be able to call yourself a coffee drinker with some solid know-how.

Deluxe Coffeeworks
The guys from Deluxe set out to make bold beautiful roasted beans affordable and accessible.   For them, coffee is not an elite beverage but a caffeinated delight meant to be shared with anyone and everyone.  The two main shops are super neat with funky industrial artworks and motorcycles being worked on.

If you are looking for a small, cosy, vibe head over to their Church Street location and if you want to grab a burger or some bites from an old garage and feel ultimately rad while doing it, head over to the Roodehek shop and headquarters.

Check out this awesome video from Deluxe.

Loading Bay
Wafts of peppery rocket atop freshly baked artisan bread spill out the doors of the Loading Bay.  It’s achingly artsy with a designer clothing store just a few steps above the tables with undeniable cool unaffordable clothing.  Their coffee, regardless of the array of denim looming above, is smooth, robust, and generously flavourful.

Roasted at the Espresso Lab Microroasters in nearby Woodstock, the Loading Bay makes nothing short of one of the best cups of coffee around.

Bean There Coffee Company
These guys know coffee, they spent months overlanding through Africa to get in with local coffee farmers and are back to serve the same farmer’s variety of blends from around the continent.  They’ll spend time chatting to you about where coffee comes from and how it goes from plant to bean to cup, their training as baristas and any other questions a consumer could have about coffee, ever.

Conveniently located in the centre of the city (and right next to Honest Chocolate), Bean There Coffee Company is a bright, sunny spot off Wale Street.

Rosetta Roastery
Recently placing roots in the Woodstock Exchange, the Rosetta Roastery serves quality roasted coffee beans from fairly sourced farms.  Their coffees are light and tangy and their baristas can throw down a Seinfeld joke or two.  Rosetta is set amongst the hippest of hipster warehouse design centres, but there’s no pretentious undertones or judging eyes from these guys, anyone who wants a solid cup of coffee will have their fill.

The Blend
This is a little eatery on the east side of the CBD.  The black tables and grey counters keep the local cafe calm and simple and let you focus on the task at hand, eating tasty sandwiches and drinking well made coffee.  Julie and David are entrepreneurs whose edge lies in their variety of coffee brands.  While most local Cape Town places give their undivided attention to a single roastery, The Blend brings in a variety of options for the coffee consumer.

Cheap, reliable, and good company, The Blend continues to expand and is bringing pop-up carts around the city.

Origin Coffee Roasting
The parent of all the rest of its coffee kindertjies, Origin Coffee Roasting started the push for better coffee in the Mother City and continue to be a top choice for coffee lovers from all around Cape Town.   Origin’s goal has always been to bring high quality, fresh and tasty beans to the consumer.  The variety of science lab looking percolators, presses, and boiling contraptions make the perfect cup of Joe or a warming glass mug filled with fancy tea.
