2 Specialty restaurants to love in Pretoria

Summer is the perfect time to try new things, to move out of your comfort zone and dip into different pockets. Pretoria is filled with excellent specialty restaurants, hidden gems, that perfect a certain cuisine and allow you to learn more about delicacies that you have only scratched the surface of before.

Here are two favourite specialty restaurants in Pretoria we think you should try.

SALT Eatery

Known for their delicious tasting plates, SALT offers a range of different meats and breads to choose from, as well as their own homemade pesto and condiments. The lush restaurant housed in the increasingly popular Hazelwood dining area, makes their own mouth-watering bread from scratch.

The first thing you will notice once you sit down and glance over the menu is how unique their meals are. Don’t expect to find the same old, same old at SALT, every meal is an experience. The chefs are experimental, are not afraid of trying new things, and often infuse modern flavours with classic recipes.

The breakfast menu has interesting meals such as a soufflé omelette which consists of brie, red onion jam, basil or bacon, chorizo, tomato; or a scotch egg with black pudding, spicy tomato chutney, and kimchi. They also have a range of home-baked breads – especially their tasty bao buns – which are Chinese steamed bread rolls.

Their charcuterie boards from their chalkboard provide a large selection that you can choose from to make your ideal boards. This is an excellent restaurant to visit with friends for tapas or even lunch or dinner.

Chocolat et Café

Charles M. Schultz, the creator of Peanuts said, “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” Which seems like the motivation behind Chocolat et Café, the Parisian themed chocolatier in Hazelwood, Pretoria.

One feels almost like Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as the smell of sugary treats surrounds you as you walk into the establishment, and if that is not enough to welcome you , the excellent service will do that. Friendly staff who are genuinely passionate about the products and brand that they are serving helps to entice one to take a seat, and indulge in the selection of cakes, desserts, bonbons and savoury meals that are available.

They have a range of delicious chocolate treats that you need to taste to appreciate. Summer is also the perfect time to try their extensive dessert menu which includes ice-cream sandwiches, a dessert trio of banana caramel cheese cake, chocolate mousse and berry pannacotta.

They even have options for sugarless bonbons, it’s like they have created a delicacy for your every craving. From breakfast with red velvet French toast to spinach and ricotta quesadillas for lunch and tiramisu bites for dessert, supplemented with cookies and cream hot chocolate, their menu will have trying new things and indulging your sweet tooth in a selection of excellent confectionaries.
