Spirits: yes, we know, Halloween is all about the spirits, but we’re talking about the ones in a bottle, not the ones under your bed. Black Magic dark rum makes for a luscious Dark ‘n Stormy (rum with strong ginger beer) and the Black Rose Gin would be beautiful in a refreshing tall drink, mixed with pink tonic and fresh lime. And the Crystal Head Vodka? Drink it anyway you like – we just loved the bottle!

Whisky: the revered spirit is cherished and worshipped all over the world, and we have a few darker ones to help you get in the Halloween mood. Peat Monster is exactly that – a monster of a whisky, packed with rounded, luscious peaty flavours. Dark Origins is a deeply coloured whisky with a rich sherry finish while the Black Art is a very special drink, created by Master Distiller Jim McEwan, who has sworn to take the recipe secret of Bruichladdich Black Art with him to the grave.

Wine: let wine protect you from the mischievous spirits this Halloween. We’ve chosen Ghost Corner Pinot Noir, a sophisticated wine with jammy fruit and rich mushroom flavours – it’ll remind you of an enchanted forest. Radford Dale Black Rock is an exceptional blend from the Swartland region (get it? Swart land?). Jordan’s Black Magic is a bold but silky Merlot that will have you under it’s spell from the very first sip.

Beer: “Trick or Treating” around the neighbourhood can be thirsty work, so refresh yourself with one of these spooky beers: the Bonecrusher, Black Honey by Devils Peak X Ukuhamba, and for some festive flavour – try a Pumpkin Ale

The Classics: a dress up party is just not the same without some of our party regulars. Black Label is a must have, as is Black Sambucca and a little Johnnie Walker Black Label. We can’t promise that the ghosts of the night before won’t give you any trouble in the morning!

Whisky recommendations were supplied by Adrian of the Cape Whisky Club, a community of whisky enthusiasts of all levels of experience. Join them on one of their regular tastings in the Mother City.
