You’re making your cheese burger all wrong – apparently

What do you get when an eristic writer thinks of himself as an expert and bashes chefs – claiming that what they’re doing is wrong? Enter – #cheeseburgergate!
A US writer by the name of Chris Thompson has taken it upon himself to tell chefs all over they are making cheese burgers wrong. Read his rant here. Since when has there ever been a wrong way to make one?! It’s a burger!
According to his article, Chris says that chefs put the cheese on the burger patty while it’s still on the grill, and he claims to believe you should put the cheese on the bun and transfer the burger patty once it’s cooked.
He states: “The cheese does not need a lot of heat to melt, and there will certainly be enough residual heat in the patties to melt the cheese when the patties go into the sandwiches. When you turbo-charge the melting process, all you wind up with is a burger with cheese that is melted too thinly over the top and is all folded up and congealed on the side of the burger.”
It’s evident he feels very strongly about the way his cheese burgers should be assembled but come on, seriously?
He also says chefs “put the cheeseburger cheese-side up on the bottom half of the bun, and then they pile lettuce and onions and pickles on top of the cheese and then smash the top half of the bun down onto the whole deal. You moron! All that wet vegetation and those blobs of slick condiments make your burger a slick, sliding mess, and in all that sliding, the cheese is, again, pushed away from the top of the burger and onto the burger’s sides. Horrible.”
His article has prompted the likes of The Today Show and Food52 to run a poll asking their followers what they think is the best way to put cheese on a cheese burger – while still on the grill or after.
