It’s the first weekend feast of the year and the last weekend before the majority of us head back to work, so let’s make the food experience count.

Before you dive into your January health plan, why not savour the last bit of holiday indulgence with the following recipes.

Start off the morning with these blueberry and coconut muffins. They have a great texture with an added crumbly topping, and blueberries are currently in season – bonus!

The weather is set to be a warm this weekend so fire up the braai while we can still bask in the summer heat. Try this Braai leg of lamb with chimichurri sauce, pomegranates and cauliflower and zucchini puree – now that sounds good! The puree is also low carb and the dish as a whole is bursting with bold flavours.

Allow this whole roasted, spicy cauliflower to accompany your braai this weekend. It  makes for a far more exotic and tasty side than the conventional potato salad and greens. To add to the spices, the cauliflower is topped with chorizo crumbs and a ricotta dressing.

Why not try master some vegan cooking this weekend? Most of us have had a lot of meat over Christmas so it wouldn’t be a bad thing to take a break from animal products and try your hand at this vegan roasted banana ice cream. If you’re going vegan as a new year’s resolution then look here.

If you fancy something nutritional, here’s a delicious roasted vegetable medley that can be served as a side or a main. It’s served with a zesty yoghurt and tahini dressing.

A Sunday night meal should be easy, wholesome and large! Look no further than this coconut cream chicken bake. It’s got a great variety of flavours like coriander and cumin and also uses green wheat freekeh, making it really hearty and filling.
