Ok. I’m not one for diets or fads or detoxes of any kind. Least of all having to ‘detox’ when I’m in post mourning over the World Cup. That’s just cruel.

But somehow, somewhere along the lines my arteries have joined forces, my liver is slowly packing itself away and my brain…well…

So, we at Food24 have come to the conclusion that it is time. Time to cut down on the alcohol content (cut down not eradicate completely) and get back on track.

A great place to start is with Drostdy-Hof extra light dry white 2007. It is a delicate fruity wine, blended from two
grape varieties, namely Chenin Blanc and Colombar. 25% lower in alcohol
and 10% lower in kilojoules than a normal white table wine, it is ideal
for the health conscious.

For those who are not dry-white inclined, Robertson Winery have a range of low in alcohol wines to suit any palate.

Moving away from the alcohol, the foodie bit is where this ‘detox’ brings a little more colour to our cheeks. We have an amazing group of bloggers who make taking part in a healthy, nutritious and wholly beneficial detox much easier to handle.

To start this trend off, we have the sensational Leaine’s Kitchen with her lamb and split pea casserole, gluten free bacon, avo and sweetcorn fritter stacks and the ultimate skinny dip, tuna paté with crudités.

A runner-up in our quest for healthy eating is a newbie blogger Halfway to Healthnut. Her sweet potato chips are a gift from low-carb heaven and her gluten free high fibre bread is the equivalent of brown bread, but packed with far more nutrients than any
highly refined, gluten-filled, shop bought bread can ever be.

Bits Of Carey’s recipes are always on our list of delicious and comforting dishes. Here are a few healthier versions to dig in and enjoy with relish… Beef stir-fry in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken and veg chow mein, succulent roast chicken and Greek style veggie cous cous and lastly, this wonderfully wintry Thai sweet potato soup.

We have a fanatastic buffet of salads too… Winter ‘salad’ , mushroom salad, beetroot and green bean salad and a warm mushroom, pear and almond salad.

Our tantalizing stir-fry’s are a definite must! Try a stir-fry with fresh herbs, beef and coriander stir-fry or pork stir-fry with ginger and cashew nuts or how about this exotic honey chicken and brown rice stir-fry?

To quench your thirst or in place of a meal, we have the delectable yoghurt smoothie with a lick, or the mouth-watering banana, honey and apple smoothie which will leave you feeling rejuvenated and on top of the world. You could also give this fresh granadilla and pear iced tea a try as well as this detoxifying ginger tea.

We’ve also got some menus to help you along the way, see Food24’s health menus.

So with a bounce in our step, and smoothie blenders in tow, we at Food24 raise a jug to good health, happy hearts and sparkling smiles.
