Tinkies teases us with a new flavour – here’s what we think it is
The king of the lunchbox returns with a new flavour.
This week one of South Africa’s naughtiest treats sneaked a little message onto social media, hoping that we wouldn’t notice. Oh, Tinkies – we noticed, alright, and we’re paying attention:
Immediately, we called an emergency Food24 staff meeting to discuss. What could it be?
The clues are strong – our bet is on a milk-tart flavoured filling in the traditional sponge. We can just imagine it now: bouncy sponge cake with a sweet custardy filling flavoured with cinnamon and nutmeg. The doily with cinnamon dusting points to milk tart, with the release primed for Heritage Month in September.
Other flavour suggestions from our team: malva and custard, banana bread as an ode to lockdown life or even a peppermint-and-caramel version.
The new secret flavour will be joining an already star-studded lineup with 7 flavours and counting, such as Strawberry Tingle and Half & Half Chocolate and Vanilla.
If you can’t wait for the release of the not-so-secret flavour, you can always make this recipe at home: Homemade Tinkies.
And if you’ve got a massive craving for milk tart now (thanks a lot, Tinkies!), you can try your hand at some of our best recipes:
