The Course at SLOW in the City – reviewed

There is an interesting new addition to the Sandton restaurant scene – The Course at SLOW in the City recently opened diagonally opposite the Gautrain station and is available to both public and members of SLOW. The location is very central and easily accessible, with ample parking available in the Radisson building. The venue lends itself perfectly to business lunches for those looking to escape the drab interior of a shopping mall or just an escape from the general chaos of Sandton!

The design team of The Course at SLOW in the City have ensured that the space is slick and contemporary, whilst remaining comfortable and welcoming. The sun streams into the restaurant and the entire space is beautifully light and airy. Wooden floors and marble create an elegant look – whilst comfortable couches make for a relaxing setting to escape the rush of Sandton.

We were welcomed with a selection of meat and vegetable antipasti served on beautiful wooden planks. Beautiful platters of prosciutto, salami, buffalo mozzarella, Peppadews with olive tapenade and fresh bread were coupled with lovely dry Prosecco or pink sparkling wine.

After snacking on this, we went on to explore the full sit-down bistro menu. We were given an amazing platter of each of the starter options to ensure that we got to try out each one. The platter was made up of perfect tomato and pea arancini balls, salmon fish cakes, tuna tacos and mushroom bruschetta. Each mouthful was filled with flavour and beautifully presented.

Next up was the main course – a tough choice to make between fillet, beautifully seared salmon or peri-peri chicken. I opted for the seared salmon, which was cooked exactly as I requested, coated with a mustard and maple glaze and served with couscous and crème fraîche.

For those that had space after all that, the dessert options were certainly not going to disappoint! The choice was cheesecake, pear and ginger crumble or pistachio macaroon filled with rose ice-cream. I couldn’t resist the macaron and it was well worth it…delicious delicate flavours!

The other exceptionally exciting aspect of The Course that needs mentioning, is that bar selection and cocktail menu. Evert de Jong, an accomplished mixologist, has developed an exciting cocktail menu specifically for The Course. Cocktails are designed to pair beautifully with specific items on the menu, whilst ensuring you can still get your old classics. The Collaboration Collection is a series of signature cocktails that are bottled, labelled and signed as the SLOW Collaboration Collection and the Standard Selection ensures that you can always order your “usual” from the standard drinks menu.

The Course will be open daily from 7 am to 9 pm on weekdays and available for private events over the weekend.
