The best and the worst sausages

My best sausage without any doubt it has to be the cheese sausage. I love the smell of it and its taste is to die for. What I love about it is that you can use it with anything you cook. You can eat it cold from the fridge, warm from the oven, or anytime of the day. That juicy, cheesy taste knocks you out.

The worst sausage for me is the beef sausage. It’s smell doesn’t do it for me. When I prepare this sausage it invites a whole lot of flies into my kitchen. And as surely as the smell makes me sick, the flies love it. So I say big-ups to a cheese sausage, it is worth having in your refrigerator. Yolanda

My favourite sausage is the Dhanya sausage, because it’s so spicy. And together with a fresh hot dog roll and some chutney, it makes a mean boerewors roll. My least favourite has to be viennas or those sausages with the bits that can break your tooth when you bite into it. Natasha

The best sausage I’ve ever tasted was off the braai grid at a friend’s birthday party. It was the ‘nippy wors’ from the Busy Corner butchery. I don’t ever want to know what was in it – but it was so good!

Runners-up in the best sausage category, is the chicken Vienna from Woolworths and the Wild Bean Café hotdog! Do yourself a favour and try them. I don’t have a particular sausage that I hate but I pretty much can’t stomach any sausage that has those inedible hard bits in it. Adele

Well so far I haven’t had a nasty sausage experience, but I had a boerewors roll experience that wasn’t too pleasant. The sausage had pieces of meat in it that were too big and there was a lot of fat in it as well. Not the best texture. Then the onions were loaded on the roll and to make it worse they were kind of raw. Needless to say we were left hungry since we threw away most of the roll. Nurahn

The best sausages I’ve ever tasted were in America a few years ago. They were absolutely delicious – no fat blobs, very meaty, spicy, juicy and one was enough to really fill you up. Spar’s sausages take a second place in my books – they’re very tasty on the braai. Fidelia

My favourite sausage has to be the cocktail pork bangers from Woolies. They’re not greasy when you grill them, and they taste delicious. Yum! The worst? Have you ever tasted cheap boerewors? Why is it, that when I go to a braai, I buy expensive boerewors, but some other chop always brings the cheap stuff? And I always get a piece of that horrible stuff. It’s fatty, and there are some strange, unidentifiable objects floating around. Gross. Never get the cheap stuff! Anthea

My favourite sausage is Karoo sausage that my Gran makes on the farm – normally with kudu or springbok meat, lean and savoury. My worst sausage is anything with big fatty chunks in it – that is so gross it makes me vomit. Oh and I stay far away from anything pink… Francine
