Ooh, lekker! There are some tasty new products on the shelves, so #Trending decided to do the hard work of tasting them (our jobs are tough, we know). Here’s what we thought:

Crispy and crunchy
Pringles chips are kind of a treat – not something you’re going to buy all the time. So, during the holidays or in those moments that you feel like you’re balling out of control, try out the new flavours – Smokey BBQ, Peri-Peri Chicken and Tortilla Mexican BBQ.

Now, the only Pringles that exist to me are the original flavour – the red can – but I can make an exception for the Tortilla Mexican BBQ flavour.

I’m sure it will be amazing with the perfect dip. On its own – like in our office – you’re going to fight for the can.

The Peri-Peri Chicken wasn’t too bad, but also wasn’t that memorable.

The Smokey BBQ flavour was the least favourite – there’s little that’s so quintessentially South African as a braai, and the BBQ chips were way off on the taste.

I’ll stick to the Tortilla Mexican BBQ flavour from this new range. – Rhodé Marshall

Sweets from Australia

A sugary treat range from Australia called Knockerdoodle is now in South Africa. They come in an array of delicious flavours, from the mouth-watering Watermelon Slices to the more low-key Sour Starfish.

I especially loved the flavour-bursting Watermelon Slices, which send you on an explosive sensory journey that makes you cringe from the sourness and gives you a full-blown taste of watermelon. The other sweets, Sour Starfish and Sour Yummy Zummy strips, are also delicious, but have a less pronounced flavour than the Watermelon Slices. Be sure to get yourself a packet of these this summer. – Julian Seeber. R16 to R21.50 selling price

Taste testing new products on the shelves: Mrs Balls jalapeño flavour get the thumbs up

We love Mrs Balls
Iconic South African chutney brand Mrs Balls has released three new flavours – chakalaka, jalapeño and sweet chilli.

Always in for the burn, the jalapeño one was my favourite, and I can imagine it will be amazing on bobotie. The chakalaka had an interesting herbiness to it, and would go great on a boerie roll. I’m not a fan of sweet chilli sauce, but this one was better than the one by Wellingtons and I’m sure sweet chilli addicts will put it on anything they get their hands on.

Thumbs up, Mrs Balls! – Grethe Kemp
