Sauté the chopped onion, garlic, green pepper and mushrooms in the heated butter and cooking oil until the onion is soft. Add the chopped tomato and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the sauce forms a purée. Season with the remaining ingredients.
Pour the sauce over the hamburger patties.
