Dice potatoes and boil in salted water to cover until tender. Drain thoroughly, then return saucepan to low heat and cook for a few minutes, uncovered, to dry off moisture.
Mash the potatoes with butter and hot milk until soft and fluffy.
Sprinkle over freshly grated nutmeg and work it in.
