Fool-proof Basmati rice
Boil your water in a kettle. Place rice and salt in a pot (there is no need to rinse the rice with this recipe).
Pour over boiling water and turn up the heat. When the water starts to bubble slightly. place the lid on the pot and turn down the heat to a gentle simmer. Leave for 12 minutes. Do NOT remove the lid
After 12 minutes turn off the heat and leave the rice to stand for 10 minutes.
Remove the lid, fluff up the rice and serve immediately.
To make your rice more interesting, add whole spices to the rice before boiling – simply crack the spices to release flavours. Try cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, star anise, bay leaf, chilli or garlic.
You can use this method for most types of rice but works especially well with basmati rice.
