One of the best things about Mzansi is the food, and the vibrant culture surrounding our nation’s favourite foods. We love to eat, and we’re lucky enough to have some of the world’s very best restaurants right here in SA. However, for the past year-and-a-half, we haven’t really been able to enjoy those restaurants. They open and close so frequently we simply can’t keep up and, more often than not, we can’t even enjoy a glass of wine with our meal! Thanks to all of this, the people of Mzansi have gravitated to cooking at home and experimenting more and more with the food we know and love.
We’ve seen a huge surge in experimenting with traditional dishes, thanks to us being stuck at home and social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok (we’re sure by now everyone’s tried pasta chips). We’re also working from home, so we’re stuck in the same space all day! Top that with our ever-evolving dietary needs and you’ll find more and more that people are looking for new, more adventurous ways to enjoy the food we grew up with, often seeking out healthier options for our old classics.
