Travis Kuhn was crowned South Africa’s best bartender at the Diageo World Class SA bartending competition at the end of last month after competing against 10 others from across the country.
Now in its ninth year, the Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender competition is considered to be the industry’s most prestigious mixology event. Kuhn will represent South Africa in Berlin in October, when mixologists from more than 60 countries will vie for the title of ultimate bartender.
Kuhn shared the recipe for one of his favourite winter cocktails with #Trending, The Fast Car.
60ml Don Julio tequila
50ml bitter lemon
50ml ruby grapefruit juice
10ml lemon juice
5ml Agave syrup
2 sprigs fresh thyme (stemmed and torn into the drink)
Put all ingredients into a shaker and throw the cocktail from one shaker to the next with cubed ice. Garnish with a fresh grapefruit slice and a fresh thyme sprig.
