1. Plan, plan, plan!
Planning is half the work done and this will ensure that you are relaxed on the day and you too can enjoy the dinner/party.
2. Get help!
Be it a professional caterer or simply family to help with the preparation, set the table or make the food, don’t kill yourself trying to be the perfect host.
3. Give your guests sufficient time to include your event in their calendars and insist on RSVPs
Everyone’s busy and advance notice is needed when planning to attend any event – it means getting time off, arranging a babysitter, getting the right outfit and gift etc. Be mindful and considerate.
4. Know your guests’ food preferences
When it comes to the menu, remember to ask about dietary requirements well in advance – the last thing you want is to scrounge at the last minute in an attempt to cater for a vegan guest.
5. Prepare ahead
If you’re making the food, it’s always helpful to prepare some of it in advance, cutting down the cooking time on the day. Soups and pastries can be made the night before to save some much-needed time.
6. Remember to relax and enjoy
When the host is having fun, everyone else is more likely to do the same.
