Checkers challenges its customers to take action against hunger

World Food Day is on Friday 16 October 2015. It is a day of action against hunger, which is why the Checkers supermarket chain is challenging its customers to join this global movement by donating non-perishable food items to any Checkers or Checkers Hyper store nationwide.

Checkers will supplement customers’ donations by matching the number of non-perishable food items received across all its stores in South Africa.

Customers can drop off non-perishable donations at their nearest Checkers or Checkers Hyper store between 16 and 31 October 2015. FoodBank SA, a registered charity organisation, will then redistribute the donations received to verified non-profits that collectively feed thousands of hungry people.
Please first check the expiry dates of products before making a donation. Non-perishable food items that can make a difference include:

•    rice, maize meal, samp and pasta
•    dried beans, lentils, tinned fish, soya mince, milk powder and peanut butter
•    canned fruit and canned mix vegetables
•    cooking oil, salt and sugar

The Checkers supermarket chain sees itself as a responsible corporate citizen who contributes to the well-being of the communities where it does business on an on-going basis. Its social investment programmes have always placed a particular focus on hunger relief.
