Solms-Astor Cape Jazz Shiraz, the Shiraz with pizzazz from Solms-Delta wine estate, is a perfect sparkler for all occasions. This very low-alcohol bubbly (a local cross between Italian Lambrusco and Australian sparkling shiraz) was recently named Best Sparkling Wine on Show and awarded a Double Gold medal at the important WSWA show in Las Vegas. It has stormed onto wine shelves all over the world to wide acclaim.

Embrace the fun in your life with Cape Jazz Shiraz, whatever the reason – office party, festive season get-togethers, old friends, new baby, in the bath at the end of a long week – or for no reason at all! Bottled immediately after the harvest, in time for the annual Franschhoek ‘Oefees,’ or Harvest Festival, held at Solms-Delta, (next one will be Saturday 26th March 2011) it has quickly become a notable choice for all celebrations by both wine connoisseurs and the general public alike. This unique wine is truly “something new from Africa.”

During December 2010 and January 2011, Ultra Liquors, Pick n Pay and other participating retailers are running Solms-Astor Cape Jazz Shiraz in-store promotions plus a competition, where you can win a Weekend in the Winelands for you and three friends, including flights, car-hire, lunch at Fyndraai and a picnic at Solms-Delta, accommodation for two nights, and tickets to the annual Franschhoek Oesfees on Saturday 26 March 2011. Check our website or see in-store for details.

Everything about Solms-Delta is different. Located 15km outside the village of Franschhoek, in the heart of the Cape Winelands, this atmospheric wine estate: “embraces all that it means to be South African. In everything that they do, Solms-Delta celebrates being ‘Hiervandaan’ [from this place] in an honest and open way that tries to unite people and cultures while producing a truly unique range of prize-winning wines.” (click here to watch a short-film on Solms-Delta by ex BBC filmmaker Anna Telford.)

The estate’s Museum van de Caab, housing a treasury of artefacts unearthed at the estate, is a
living testament to all who lived and worked there over the centuries. Solms-Delta also supports a musical heritage programme – Music van de Caab – that preserves and celebrates the joyous, resilient and defiant musical traditions of the Cape winelands. And, at the estate’s Fyndraai restaurant, imaginative homage is paid to the cultural melting pot of the Cape, with a menu built around fresh, indigenous ingredients from the farm’s very own gardens.

The award-winning wines of Solms-Delta offer a new, uniquely South African style. Classical wines with a difference made from grapes desiccated on the vine in the manner of the ancient Greeks, using selected grape varietals that are known to thrive in Mediterranean climes, intelligently blended with the tried-and-tested favourite varietals of the old Cape. These innovative wines, in two ranges, offer a cascade of new tastes, all with a distinctive sense of place.

The Solms-Delta range: The wines in this range, consist almost entirely of Rhône varietals. Three wines – Africana, Gemoedsrus and Koloni – are made entirely from desiccated grapes, making for intense, concentrated wines.

The Solms-Astor range: The wines in this range are accessible and price-friendly, and made mainly from traditional Cape grapes. Inspired by Solms-Delta’s deep commitment to reviving the folk music of the rural Cape, the simpler style of these wines is achieved through more traditional winemaking methods.
