Food24 review: Hemelhuijs
Hemelhuijs is a place that makes me happy.
The whole place is an art installation, from the original crockery
to the artwork on the ceiling which owner Jacques Erasmus, personally designed.
The food
Jacques is also
somewhat of a food artiste, he has an
amazing flair for flavour and his menu reflects a real fascination and talent for
comforting, original and interesting food.
His menu changes with the seasons and availability of
ingredients, so expect something new and unique every time you go.
The macaroni and cheese is something of a legend and has a
culinary twist including apple sauce which is just delicious. It reflects his
talent for combining sophistication with comfort which is a common thread in
his inspiring and un-pretentious offering.
The salads are fresh and abundant, the mains large and
comforting and the desserts, well, the table happily groans with so many
mouth-watering pastries and cakes, you just have
to have one… or two.
Drinks
There are delicious cocktails with freshly squeezed juices
and silky couveture hot chocolate with charcoal salt. Wine is available for something
to go with your lunch.
Good for
For all occasions from a quickie coffee and pastry to a long, lazy breakfast, brunch or lunch.
