The best chilli popper in Cape Town

The quest for the best is back with that thing we love to bite: The chilli popper.

We've had a vote for the Best Mexican in Cape Town... boy was that spicy.

Now we believe that the humble chilli popper, he who accompanies that first margarita and kicks off the fiesta, deserves a vote of his own.

We asked our Food24 blogger and chilli popper connoisseur Bits of Carey (if you don't believe me check out her awesome chilli popper recipe and chilli popper step-by-step guide) to round up her favourite chilli popper haunts for us to vote on.

It's time to burn the house down!

El Burro:  Smoked jalapeños (chipotle) stuffed with mozzarella. Something different and worth a try. It’s served with guacamole.  Their margarita is a must too. Yummo!

Crispy tortilla wrapped poppers served with guacamole and sour cream. Always a winner.

Fat Cactus: Crispy batter and served with a creamy salsa dipping sauce.

Hudson Burger Joint: Porky poppers - wrapped in bacon and beer battered served with blue cheese dipping sauce or triple cheese poppers with tomato relish.

Neighbourhood: makes a variety of poppers prepared in different ways (beer battered, nacho crumbed and even wrapped in phyllo pastry).

Buena Vista: Flaming Diablo –  crumbed, stuffed with cream cheese and dates, wrapped in bacon and crumbed.

Zapata Mexican Restaurant: Huge and perfectly battered, filled with creamy mozzarella and totally addictive.

Mexican Kitchen: Wrapped and fried in flour tortilla and served with 6 layer dip. A classic.
