Place the ham in a large enough pot to cover it with the ginger ale.
Bring it to the boil and take off the stove.
Immediately wrap the pot with the ham in the liquid, and wrap it in newspaper. THis will protect your blankets and cushions from any greasy marks.
Wrap it in blankets and put it in a large box. Cover the box with cushions.
This is done to insulate the ham and it cooks slowly overnight to a beautiful tenderness.
In the morning, unwrap carefully and place on a platter.
