Stuffed bread

    French loaf
  • butter for spreading
  • 250
    bacon OR any leftover meat
  • 1
    large onion, finely chopped
  • 250
    white sauce
  • 250
    Cheddar cheese, grated

Preheat the oven to 180 ºC (350 ºF). Halve the French loaf lengthwise and butter it lightly. Fry the bacon until crisp and chop. Sauté the onion in the same pan until tender. Mix the bacon, onion, white sauce and cheese and spoon over the bottom half of the loaf. Cover with the remaining half and wrap in aluminium foil. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the bread is heated through. Serve hot with a salad. Serves 3-4.
