Savoury phutu

    maize meal
  • salt for pap

    butter or margarine

    bunch spring onions, chopped
  • 1
    green pepper, chopped
  • 1
    tomato, chopped
  • 250
    frozen sweet corn
  • salt and pepper to taste

    grated cheddar cheese


1. Bring water to the boil, add salt and maize meal, use a large fork to mix the maize meal through, making sure it is moist, stir cook until its crumbly and cooked through.
2. In the meantime melt butter and fry spring onions and green pepper until soft. Add tomatoes, season to taste and cook over low heat for 5minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Add cooked phuthu and cheese to sauce, using fork stir lightly keeping mixture crumbly. Add sweet corn and heat through for 10 minutes.
4. Spoon into a serving bowl and serve with creamed tripe.
